All About Layering - Painted Poppy

Hello Crafty Friends!

Welcome back to my blog! Again I hope you are doing well and staying safe.

Today I am sharing the second card I created All About Layering for class. This one was the one that was a doozy which made me woozy! 😵

I used Altenew's Painted Poppy and Painted Butterflies for this card. The Painted Poppy was very challenging! Not the stamp set itself but user struggles. LOL! The previous card, Painted Flowers, I had no issues, but this one, whew! I attempted this card four times! Yes 4 times! See, when the audience views a crafters work, it seems so easy and effortless only because you see the finished product. But let me tell you, these little beauties can be challenging at times.

So on my first attempt of this card, there was ghosting. This means that when I stamped the outline image in black ink, there was a shadow around it. This happened 2 times so I decided to push them aside and start over. No I didn't trash them and no, I do not have a true reason why, except I'm a crafter. We never throw anything away because in our crafty minds, we think we can salvage mess-ups some kind of way. Don't judge me...😑

Then on my second attempt, which was the sentiment (that I ended up NOT using, go figure) 😏 (no there was no salvaging that one). I stamped it and it wasn't clear so I tried to re-stamp it and I did not line it up properly so I ended up with a double stamped image which was then unusable with no way to salvage it...bummer.

Then here comes the third try. EVERYTHING was PERFECT! Well, I thought it was until I stamped perfect images and was getting ready to stamp the layer to fill in the leaves only to drop the entire ink pad onto my project making it useless. Shoot!!! Yeah, I was pretty bummed about that...😞

Well, I took a break after these three attempts. For me, this is a sign that I was growing tired and weary and needed to just step away, regroup and start fresh the next day, and that's what I did.

On the next day, I started fresh on my fourth attempt and I was successful! Finally, I was able to finish the card with no hiccups.

Now, after my little saga, let's get into how I created this very pretty card. I did not have a specific inspiration but I put colors together on scrap paper that I thought might look nice and stamped the images make sure they'd look nice together.

(Painted Poppy Stamp Set)

I chose the following colors and supplies:
  • Altenew Painted Poppy Stamp Set for image
  • Altenew Painted Butterflies for butterfly image
  • Altenew Calming Reverie for sentiment
  • Altenew Inks: Jet black, Midnight Violet, Lavender Fields, Teal Cave, and Just Green
  • Other Inks used: Memento Tangelo and Dandelion; Versafine Onyz Black; Color Box Coral, and Stampin Up Regal Rose
  • Sizzix Foam Adhesive Sheets to adhere base to card giving it dimension
  • Sequins
  • Wink of Stella for glitter on flowers - though the photos do not pick up the beautiful shine
  • Black card stock
Alright ladies and gentlemen, that for you time! Though I messed up a few times it's just part of the process in crafting and creating but the final result will be very rewarding.

So until my next post, be blessed and take care of yourself!

All About Layering - Painted Flowers

Hello Crafty Friends!

Welcome back to my blog! I hope you are doing well and staying safe in these yet uncertain times we are living in. My prayer is that you and your loved ones are doing well.

So, today I am coming back to the scene with a card I created for class. This class is All About Layering! I created two cards but I will show you the second card in the next post.

The stamp set I used is Altenew's Painted Flowers. The cards are both simply beautiful! In creating this card I had no issues, unlike the Painted Poppy stamp which I will show in my next post.

In creating this card my colors were inspired by the bird image below that came through my email from ZGallery. When I saw this image, I knew I had to create a card using these colors together.

FIRST CARD INSPIRED BY BIRD PHOTO BELOW:

(Painted Flowers Stamp Set)

CARD COLOR INSPIRATION:

You must admit she's a beauty! Inspired by the blues, greens and "yellow/beige" (made up color), I created this card! I never would have thought of combining these colors but I think it turned out just marvelous daaawlin (darling). 😘

So let's get to what I used to create this beauty:

Supplies:
  • Altenew Painted Flowers Stamp Set for image
  • Altenew Climbing Clematis Stamp Set for sentiment (You are my Sunshine)
  • Altenew Inks: Jet Black, Carribean Sky, Parrot, Just Green, Rocky Shore
  • Scor Tape (2") for mounting card front to base
  • Rose Gold Glitter Card Base (Hobby Lobby, Paper Studio)
  • Sequins
Well, ladies and gentlemen, that wraps it up for this post and I hope you are inspired try creating greeting cards for yourself. It's truly therapeutic and relaxing (except when you mess up) 😄.

Until my next post, be blessed and take care of yourself!

JUST CHILL!

Is It Really Easy To Just Chill?

How many times has someone said, "Just chill, everything will be ok! Well, sometimes it's easier said than done and the person saying it really means well because they don't want to see you worry yourself into a tizzy.

It might seem like the person saying "Just Chill" is not very compassionate or understanding. It might seem like they are minimizing your concern at hand which is major for you because you are experiencing the problem.

But, think back to every adverse situation you have encountered. Everything really does usually end up being okay. It may take some time to become "okay" but usually you end up being okay. The card I created for this blog post is a card to encourage the recipient to hang in there because everything will be okay, though it may seem like it won't be for a long, long time.

I was inspired to write this card because sometimes I just need to chill! This card was my second attempt. The first card, I scrapped because it turned out badly. I almost posted it to show you where I messed up but I decided it was too awful to post. I showed the card to my husband and he thought it was nice but I knew better. 👎 He's not very crafty. He's a tech person. See now you know why he thought is was nice. I was too embarrassed to post it so it went to file 13. 😞

Ok, Ok, enough of the rambling about the hot mess card...sorry for being a digresser. Lol!!

So, as I get back on track, I am pretty pleased with my second card. It is a clean and simple card. I didn't do anything fancy as I wanted this one to be clean and simple. Alright, not really. Truth is, I was weary from working so hard on the previous card that turned out badly that I only had enough energy left to push and squeeze this one out. LOL! It was worth the squeeze and push I think.

Now let's get down to what supplies I used to create this card.

  • Altenew Inks: Jet Black, Warm Sunshine, Dark Chocolate, Parrot, Mocha, Sand Dunes, Expresso
  • Stamp Sets: Grateful (acorns), Breathe (sentiment)
  • 80 lb. card stock (always my go to)
  • Paper Studio Simply Glittered Card base
  • Rose Gold washi tape
  • Fun Foam for panel dimension
  • Rose Gold Sequins
  • Inkadinkado Mask Paper
  • Matte Medium adhesive used for adhering sequins
  • Scor Tape 3/8" & 2"
I you decide to dive into card making leave me a comment below. I'd love to see your creative side shine through!

Welp, this is it until my next card creation!

I'll see you all in the next post so be blessed and be safe!

Peachy Hello Card

Well hello everyone! I know, I know, it's been a while...WHEW! You all know how it is when life gets in the way and interrupts our routine. BUT I AM BACK! And you guessed it, I have a new card to share with you that I created for Altenew's Certification Program that I am participating in.

So, let's not waste any time, let's jump right on in here! So below you will behold the beauty of this peachy/autumn floral, Hello card I created as part of my homework assignment. Just look at her! Isn't she a beauty? The bold and subtle colors coordinating just perfectly. It can actually fit any occasion just by changing out the sentiment and it can be given in any season.

One unique thing about this card design is that it is a top folding card rather than a side fold. I like top fold cards! 💚

I know you are just jumping up and down inside wondering what Altenew products I used. Of course you are! Don't worry, It'll be our little secret. 😁

Okay, so I used the Altenew Sympathy Stamp Set. The ink colors are Autumn Blaze, Peach Perfect, Mountain Mist and Jet Black for the sentiment. I also used foam dots underneath the flowers and leaves giving them dimension. However, the leaf on the left side was stamped directly onto the card. I did this following my instructor's design. Then I added flat back gems to pull everything together giving it a little something extra giving my card more of a finished look.

I think it turned out great! What do you think?  Let me know by leaving a comment below. So darling, until my next beauty, be blessed and stay safe!
